My mom used to say this quite often
As a child I never understood
As an adult I do
Do you remember playing the spinning game?
You would spin ’round and ’round
Fall down
Get back up and spin some more
If you could no longer get back up
You lost
It seems our world is spinning faster and faster
Not physically, mind you
But our days do seem to jet by us
We just started 2011 and 2012 is within our sight
We hardly enjoy one activity because our minds are on the next
We rush from one thing to the other
Rarely noticing anything and barely savoring the moment
Our children are born and then they’re gone
Off to school, off to the game, off to college
Off to a home and life of their own
Blink
Weekends
Poof!
Holidays
Zoom!
Years seem like months
Months seem like weeks
Weeks seem like days
And days are only seconds
The lyrics of a Steve Miller song keep running through my mind
“Time keeps on slippin’ slippin’ slippin’
Into the future”
Although I am looking forward to my heavenly home
I want to enjoy this one
I want to savor these fleeting moments like a good cup of coffee
Slow my world down! I want to enjoy!
Psalm 39:4
“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. NLT
