Who Do You Call?

When life is hard and the world is cold

When the diagnosis comes out of the blue and slaps you square in the face

When you get sucker-punched by the very person you thought would always have your back

When friends/family/employers fail you

Who do you call?

What do you do?

Do you run to the bottle?

Do you make horrible plans to get even?

Do you complain and tear down?

Do you cry out in anger?

Do you dive into the depths of despair?

Or

Do you run to the Rock?

Your High Tower

Your Hope

Your Redeemer

Your Daddy God

The ONE who loves you most!

He will never leave you

He won’t hurt you

He will walk with you through life’s storms

He will always calm the storm within you

And He might even calm the sea around you

When situations and circumstances seem to overwhelm

We need to keep our eyes on our Father’s face

Nothing else matters!

It seems people all around me are getting hit from every side

Marriages, children, illness, stress, the unknown

But over and over in my spirit I hear this old hymn

My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness!

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name!

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand

All other ground is sinking sand.

Our Hope; not in mankind, not in our job, not in the medical community and not in our spouse

Our Hope is in Christ!

Nothing else; nothing less

Psalm 144:2 NLT
He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer.
He is my shield, and I take refuge in Him. He makes the nations submit to me.

Future & Hope

The early morning quiet

My favorite time of day

No lights but the Christmas tree

Peace

I sat at the table to read and illustrate a devotion

Today’s was about HOPE

How the Father has plans for us

Plans to give us a Future and a Hope

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord

They are plans for good and not for disaster,

To give you a future and a hope. NLT

How often I have heard this

How often I have quoted it

Today, I read around it

And I found this

Jeremiah 29:7

And work for the peace and prosperity of the city

Where I sent you into exile. NLT

Jeremiah sent this letter to all the people that Nebuchadnezzar had taken

Into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon

Today, I believe, Christians are in exile

Hebrews 11:13-16

13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. 14 Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. 15 If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. 16 But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

This world is not our home

We are only passing through

For just a short stay

But while we are here we are to occupy

Build houses and live in them

Plant gardens and eat their produce

Take wives and become fathers of sons and daughters

Seek the welfare of the city (country) where I have sent you into exile

Pray to the Lord on its behalf

This is NOT a political post

I’m just sharing what I read and how it really caused me to pause and think

So often I hear people talking about how they just wish Jesus

Would return and get us out of this mess we’re in

Don’t get me wrong!

Come quickly, Lord Jesus!!

But

We are IN this world

We are not OF it

We are to occupy ’til HE comes

And PRAY

Pray for the welfare of our world

Pray for the welfare of our country

Pray for the welfare of our state

Pray for the welfare of our city

Pray for the welfare of our household

As it goes

So will we

From Success to Failure…in 2.6 Seconds

‘Tis the 1st

January 1st

New Year’s Day

Resolutions

Goals

Lofty dreams

Fulfilled purpose

Guilt

Failure

Doesn’t take long to get through the list

Sometimes as much as a week

Generally

By days end

I read a blog from my friends at

http://www.incourage.me

The suggestion was made

Instead of a long litany of goals

Goals that are so unattainable

That failure is a certainty

How about

One

Specific

Word

A singular term

That we can

Remember

Write

Ponder

Act upon

Every day

Last year my word was

Grace

I wrote it on chalkboards

I thought about it

I read about it

Extended it

To myself and others

Even contemplated it as a tattoo

Much easier and more effective than another

List of Resolutions

All I had to remember was Grace

And what was even better

I achieved it!

More Grace

For myself

For others

Saw the Grace of God

Seemingly

Every where I looked

Grace

This year

My word is

Hunger

Strange word

But full of potential

Hunger

For righteousness

Peace

Love

Relationships

Order

Restoration

Health

Direction

Not only for myself

But for all

Give yourself a break

Forget the list of past failures

Start anew this year

Let’s go

From Failure to Success…in 2.6 Seconds

One Word

You Can Do It!

Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. (Habakkuk 2:2-3) –

I Corinthians 13

1 Corinthians 13

New King James Version (NKJV)

The Greatest Gift

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

How can I add to this?
I don’t need to
‘Nuff said

Living with the “Why?”

Many are the times when we ask, “Why?”
Why did he die so young?
Why did she have to be at that place at that time?
Why didn’t we go when we said we would?
Why did God do it like that?
Why can’t it be another way?
Why am I here?
Why can’t they understand?
Why would they do something like that?
Why is this happening to me?
Why? Why? Why?

That three letter word can consume you if you let it

Often we can explain it away
He died so young because he chose drugs
She was there because she was helping the homeless
We left when we did because there were others with us calling the shots

More often, we can not

It is in those times that we must remember
God is God and we are not
I don’t have to know the why
I don’t have to make it reasonable in my mind
I don’t have to understand
I don’t have to figure it out

If and when God wants me to understand, I will
It may be while I walk this earth
But probably won’t
Until then I will have to learn to live with the “Why?”

It doesn’t matter
Because I trust Him
His plan is to prosper us and not to harm us
To give us a future and a HOPE

These words from a song keep running through my mind:

Life is hard, the world is cold
You’re barely young and then, you’re old
But every fallen tear is always understood
Life is hard, but
God is Good!
